Visual Memory

Updated: Mar 5, 2023

Milan, Italy.

We had no idea where we were going. We had hopped on a city bus just to ride in a new direction than the day before.

The bus stopped and strolled to a local cafe for a latte. Then we wandered by a huge city park with an outside barrier wall. The image below jumped out at me and stopped me in my tracks. The combination of withering vines, textured concrete, and graffiti is an image that is forever imprinted on my mind.

The work shown below, "A" is for Apple, reminds me of this photo. I was not thinking about this photo when I painted the piece, but I realized the connection much later. Somewhere deep in the recesses of my brain the visual memory was there, just hiding and waiting to emerge.

Isn't it fascinating how memory works?
